How Long Does It Take to Produce Custom Melamine Particleboard Orders?

Aug. 27, 2026

When purchasing custom melamine particleboard from a factory, one of the first questions buyers usually ask is: How long will it take to complete my order? The answer is not simply a fixed number of days. Production time depends on the board specifications, surface design, order quantity, raw material availability, and whether the product requires special customization.

From a factory’s perspective, understanding these factors can help buyers set a more realistic purchasing schedule and avoid unnecessary delays.

1. Standard Orders Usually Have a Shorter Lead Time

For regular melamine particleboard orders using existing colors, textures, standard sizes and commonly requested thicknesses, production can generally be arranged relatively quickly once the specifications and order details are confirmed.

Melamine-faced particleboard typically consists of a particleboard core and melamine-impregnated decorative paper. Common thicknesses include 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm and 20mm, while different sheet sizes can also be supplied according to market requirements.

If the required raw boards and decorative papers are already available, the factory can arrange production according to the production schedule without waiting for new materials.

2. Custom Colors and Textures May Add Time

Custom appearance is one of the most common reasons for a longer lead time.

If a buyer selects an existing color from the factory's available collection, production can usually move directly to the next stage after confirmation. However, if the buyer provides a new color, wood-grain design, stone texture or physical sample, the factory may need to complete color matching, paper preparation and sample confirmation before mass production.

This is particularly important for projects where the final color must closely match an existing furniture design. RISUN, for example, offers a large range of decorative colors and textures and also supports customized colors and textures.

For samples, the preparation process can be considerably shorter than full-scale production. RISUN states that melamine veneer samples can be produced within 5 days, with sample shipping arranged afterward.

3. Board Specifications Also Affect the Schedule

Thickness, density, environmental standard and moisture resistance should be confirmed before production begins.

For example, an order requiring a particular density, special thickness or specific emission standard may need a different substrate preparation process. RISUN provides customized density and thickness options and supplies boards according to standards such as CARB P2, CARB P1, E0, E1 and E2.

Therefore, buyers should provide complete technical requirements at the quotation stage rather than changing specifications after production has already been scheduled.

4. Order Quantity Matters

A small trial order and a full container order do not necessarily follow the same production arrangement.

Large orders require more raw materials, decorative paper and production capacity to be reserved. If several colors or specifications are included in one order, production may also need to be divided into different batches.

At the same time, a factory with multiple production locations may have more flexibility when arranging production. RISUN currently operates factories in Hebei and Anhui and reports a daily melamine lamination capacity of up to 7,000 sheets.

5. Production Time Is Not the Same as Delivery Time

Buyers should also distinguish between production lead time and total delivery time.

Production lead time covers material preparation, pressing, inspection and packing. After the boards are finished, there is still loading, export documentation and ocean transportation to consider.

For overseas buyers, the complete purchasing cycle therefore includes:

Specification confirmation → Sample approval → Raw material preparation → Production → Quality inspection → Packing → Container loading → Shipping

A factory may complete the boards on schedule, but the final arrival date will still depend on the destination port, shipping schedule and logistics conditions.

6. How Can Buyers Shorten the Lead Time?

From our factory experience, the easiest way to reduce unnecessary waiting is to provide complete information at the beginning. Buyers should confirm the board type, thickness, density, size, color, texture, environmental standard, quantity and packaging requirements before production starts.

If a custom color is required, sending a physical sample or clear reference as early as possible can also save time during the matching process.

In practice, there is no universal lead time for every custom melamine particleboard order. A standard product with readily available materials may move quickly, while a highly customized order naturally requires additional preparation. The most reliable approach is to let the factory review the complete specifications first and provide a production schedule based on actual material availability and capacity.

For buyers, a realistic lead time is more useful than an overly optimistic promise. Clear specifications, timely sample approval and direct communication with the factory are usually the simplest ways to keep a custom melamine particleboard project on schedule.
